The idea of the video was to create as much visual confusion as possible. The concept was based off of the Dadaists Exquisite Corpse. We contacted several Designers and Visual Artists from Toronto, Canada and abroad (Spain, France, Italy) and gave them a lyric to interpret, with no clue what was before or after. For many of the international artists, english was their second language, which offered an extra layer of complexity and confusion in itself.
There was no guide lines except the length of the lyric (in seconds and frames) and the dimensions of the footage or still.
The video features the talented work of: Gillian Candidi, Alan Lukatela, Michael Tung, Matt Johnson, Joel Derksen, Alan Thatcher, Nick Fox, Kevin Voirin, Ebony Haynes, Marta Verde Baqueiro, Ken Murphy, Carlie Waksdale, Vishana Lodhia, Kfir Gluzberg, Liam Johnstone, Tanguy Barker, Dave Murphy,  Jordan Clarke, Kate LaRue, and Ricardo Leite.
D.O.P: Somsanith “Dee” Bouabane, with additional photography by  Michael Tung.
We hope you enjoy what you see.

Intro
Artist: Marie Richer and Philip Rae
Idea: Our self-imposed brief was to create a world of confusion inside NaNa’s mind. The brain (not shown) was to imply that all of the preceding images are notions in his mind and the gears represented the wheels turning, spinning out of control. The glitches are meant to be like spasms and offer a unifying transition between shots.

"It’s half past the hour glass"
Artist: Philip Rae
Idea: I played with the ‘glass is half empty’ idea, but I wanted to make it appear as if the half the water was floating in the top portion of the glass. Like magic.

"Side bar antidote was a deadly quote"
Artist: Joel Derksen, Graphic Designer
Idea: The concept focused on the paradox of the deadly antidote—when, historically, some antidotes have been just as dangerous as the diseases themselves. I turned to medical engravings from the 18th century to draw out feelings of combined frailty and clinical detachment, with an inky, smoky presence that bleeds into the illustrations and begins to overtake the frail etchings.

"The pen stroke will brush thru all of your posted notes"
Artist: Philip Rae
Idea: A flip book Post It note pad begin cut open by a pen stroke. Inside is space (a reoccurring theme of mine in this video). I used smoke because of the vocal effect on Nana. It sounded ghostly.

Idea: Marie had a spanish book and we thought it was appropriate. I think it says, “Oh no! Again!,” like the dude is saying that he never gets it…or something. Something like that.

"Transmitting live from T Dot"
Artist: Marie Richer
Idea: What better way to show our glorious T Dot than a tilt-shift stop-motion of our skyline? I shot this from a rooftop on Spadina with my friend Daniel Scott Burns.
